Turning a Manic Monday into a Magic (Destination Wedding) Monday
Some wedding traditions never end. Tossing rice after a couple makes it official, cheesy covers of Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” via a live band…and scheduling weddings for the weekend. Don’t get us wrong, weekend weddings are pretty much the gold standard, especially when it comes to destination weddings. You and your guests are off work, and younger attendees won’t have school. For the budget conscious brides, or the couples who like to march to the beat of their own drum: Why not consider a weekday destination wedding?
Our team has heard “My friend overpaid on their wedding…even though they were promised a bunch of savings.” a ton of times. When we’ve served over 5000 happy couples? We aim instead to break that cycle. How about offering up luxury on a budget: your wedding on a weekday.
Let’s dive in:
Are you bonkers? Why plan a weekday destination wedding?
First off, absolutely! We’re a little extra-passionate… when it comes to saving our couples money.
Secondly, planning a weekday destination wedding can score you some pretty amazing rates on packages – something we can all get onboard with. Due to the “less attractive” timing, some wedding packages are simply less expensive during the week.
Lastly, the best part: A wedding thrown on Monday through Thursday guarantees most, if not all of the same perks their weekend counterparts offer!
Are weekday weddings cheaper? Let’s take a look at an example from one of our top resorts, Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos. Aside from costs, try to identify one of the main differences:

Did you catch it? We’ll give you a hint, there aren’t any differences between the two packages, amenity-wise! 😍 Therefore, keep those savings account full, and enjoy all the same venues and vendors as the weekenders do.
How many people actually book weekday destination weddings?
Quite a few of our couples! Surprisingly, according to our Sales Executives, around 25% of our weddings booked are on a weekday. A few more superlatives to keep in mind:
- Most Commonly Booked Weekday: Monday (People can arrive on Saturday and leave on Tuesday = same amount of days to take off work)
- Least Commonly Booked Weekday: Wednesday (Less opportunity for people to submit shorter PTO requests to attend)
That’s great and all, but what about my guests and their schedules?
We’re all about transparency. Not necessarily about how we all could make coffee or tea at home instead of wire transferring our paychecks to Starbucks every week. We’re not ready for that conversation, yet.
While we recommend weekday destination weddings for couples looking to save a few bucks, there is a potential drawback. Weekday weddings don’t get many “Yes” responses on their RSVP list. As we mentioned earlier, some weekday dates might be more PTO friendly than others. Overall, knowing your guest list well will ensure you pick the day that puts the most of them in the yes column.
It’s important to remember: start planning your destination wedding early – no matter which day of the week your plan on tying the knot. As the old saying goes, “The sooner you book your destination wedding, the sooner you’ll be able to enjoy poolside margs with your fellow girlbosses.” (Martha Stewart, we assume).
Additional Pros of Planning a Weekday Destination Wedding
When planning a weekday wedding, you can sell would-be guests on treating it as a vacation! If you hosted a Thursday wedding, guests still get that weekend to party. Did we mention the emptier resort halls? Because nothing is better than enjoying a little extra privacy in a typically well-attended all-inclusive.
Booking a weekday wedding in paradise also guarantees fewer tourists. This makes the wait-time on that special bayview table and professional bartender almost non-existent! Oh and the luxury suites with those swim-out infinity pools? You guessed it. Overall, the lower the resort guest count, the lower the rates.
Speaking of rates, let’s circle back around to wedding packages. While we would all like to ideally snag that weekend slot, most weekend dates get scooped up quickly. Certainly with that being said, if “planning early” isn’t possible, why not save money and still walk the aisle at that perfect resort? Particularly if it means you get a great deal at an upscale set of wedding amenities!
Even better, you’ll have access to Destify’s Path to I Do booking platform. Basically it’s where live wedding date availability is pulled daily – letting you find and secure the best weekday for your celebration.
So, will you marry on a Monday, tie the knot on a Tuesday or get wed on a Wednesday?
