A record-breaking season of Jamaica travel is underway, and the island isn’t showing any signs of slowing down!

It goes without saying, but Covid-19 changed everything. One of the unexpected side effects of the global pandemic was a massive boom in travel and destination weddings.

To accommodate the booming travel, Jamaica is expanding its air service even further, with the opening of three additional nonstop routes from the United States this week.

Frontier Airlines is beginning nonstop operations from St. Louis, Chicago, and Denver to the popular tourist destination of Montego Bay, providing a big boost of Jamaica travel from the midwestern and western regions of the United States.

All of the new routes begin this week: St. Louis-Montego Bay service begins on February 23, Denver-Montego Bay service starts on February 24, and Chicago-Midway-to-Montego Bay service starts on February 25.

According to Frontier Airlines, all of the routes run three times every week.

Since the pandemic, Frontier has been the Caribbean’s fastest-growing airline, aggressively launching new routes around the area, especially to popular tourist destinations like Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and Cancun.

The growth of Jamaica travel has given the island access to a variety of new source markets, including some in places where nonstop flights to the Caribbean are less common.

It’s part of a larger trend in which U.S.-based airlines are starting to turn to new locations for Caribbean routes, from the development of American Airlines’ Caribbean service in Austin, Texas, to historical routes like Cayman Airways’ first-ever service between Los Angeles and Grand Cayman.

Jamaica anticipates exceeding its record-breaking tourism figures from 2019 thanks to a record-high number of tickets to the island this winter.

Jamaica travel is expected to reach more than $4.1 billion in revenue, which would be 13.3 percent more than last year’s period.
