The Couple
Brendan and Nicole met through mutual friends during their time at Long Beach State University. Brendan’s proposal was well thought out. He had a friend take her out to dinner, and while she was away from home he removed all the furniture and placed rose petals and candles everywhere. When she walked inside he was standing in the middle of it all and he gave a sweet speech, ending with him getting down on one knee and popping the big question. After a small group of friends who were in on the plans joined to celebrate with champagne. Nicole said, “It was so intimate and romantic and absolutely perfect.”
The Planning
Once working with Destify, and their travel agent Candyce, they sorted through recommendations to choose their ideal resort. The couple chose Generations Riviera Maya for a multitude of reasons; it had swim-up rooms, the ceremony venues were beautiful, it offered great value, and it had hundreds of good reviews, images, and ratings online.
Working with Destify couldn’t have been easier. The couple said, “Candyce was a dream for us and our guests, none of our family or friends had a negative comment”. The planning process with the wedding department was simple and easy, and they chose from catalogs provided by the resort. The couple also brought their own linen, place cards, seating chart, and card box.
The Wedding
Most of their guests chose to stay Thursday through Monday. On Friday the couple hosted a dinner rehearsal with close family members and friends, and it was included as part of their wedding package. On Saturday they hosted their ceremony at the resort’s pier, built across the water with unobstructed views of the ocean. Nicole had originally fallen in love with pictures of the venue while planning.
After, the couple held a private reception at the Palapa Ganesh, located next to the pier. It offered some coverage, which turned out to be the right choice, as it started pouring briefly after the dinner and their first dance. After the rain died down, the DJ began playing rain-themed songs, the bar brought out tequila for everyone and the weather went back to being beautiful and warm. The couple agreed this one of their favorite moments of the wedding, and Nicole said, “It was our good luck rain”. The couple ended their wedding celebrations on Sunday and took an excursion to swim in a Mexican cenote with a small group of family and friends.
Looking Back
The couples’ main advice is to stick to what you want for your wedding. Wedding planning can be overwhelming, and you can’t please everyone. Their second piece of advice is tequila, as anything can easily be solved with a shot of tequila!
