Destination wedding at Sandos Playacar – an Honest Review from Jill and Morgan

The Couple

Jill and Morgan met at work, and after 6 months of dating, Jill joked that Morgan had to find a new job so they could continue their relationship, so Morgan did. The couple lives in Colorado, and before his proposal, the couple hadn’t really discussed marriage. He popped the question while they were hiking, and she was not expecting it. He had gotten permission from her parents in advance and held onto the ring for over 2 months before asking.

The Planning

They chose a destination wedding because it was similar to having an elopement, which is what they truly envisioned for their ceremony. They chose Mexico because it was an affordable option, had easy flights, and fit their style as a couple. Together with Destify, and their agent Melissa, they chose Sandos Playacar resort. Jill said, “I didn’t need or want a lot, and I appreciated the quick communication by email.” This process worked with Jill’s work schedule and was truly stress-free. Once working with the wedding department, it only got easier. They simply chose the decor options from the resort’s catalogs, along with a wedding package that included the ceremony and reception.

The Wedding

The couple stayed at the resort for 7 days, and their wedding included around 25 guests. They arrived on Saturday and mostly hung out at the main pool, where they were able to greet their guests as they arrived over the next few days. On the day of the ceremony, Jill appreciated the hair and make-up team, and all of the women in the bridal party loved the results. They held their ceremony at 4 pm on the beach. It followed with a cocktail hour and reception at the resort’s garden area, which was secluded, beautiful, and featured catered food. After the wedding, many of the guests took a day trip to swim in a Mexican cenote, which proved to be one of the standout moments of the trip. They also ventured to downtown Playa del Carmen to explore the local food and shopping.

Looking Back

Jill says that she loved how stress-free the process was. She doesn’t consider herself a planner so this was the perfect way to have her wedding. Her advice is to stop to take the time to enjoy the day of your wedding. Everything went so quickly, so you may want to consider stretching out your events so you can enjoy it all the better.
