Recently we caught up with our friends at DIDEA Events & Entertainment, based in Punta Cana. This Dominican Republic wedding and event company has recently retooled wedding coordination and safety protocols to ensure the health and wellbeing of future destination weddings. Follow below as we interviewed Andrea to learn more about these new guidelines:
How has it been rescheduling weddings due to COVID-19?
Rescheduling weddings has been a bittersweet experience for me personally, and for our entire team at DIDEA Events & Entertainment – Punta Cana.
In the beginning, we felt as if the world was ending. We felt for all of our couples who got affected by the situation and watched how the beautiful wedding plans we made together fell apart. But we agreed that health is, and always will be number 1 priority for all of us.
We quickly adapted and offered full wedding rescheduling, without any additional fees. Throughout the quarantine, we did interviews with our couples about the rescheduling process and published them on our blog. The idea was to help anyone affected by this unfortunate situation and let them know that they are not alone. In fact, their new wedding plans may turn out even better than the original ones, as it happened with our couples.
We now have extra time to plan and create an even more beautiful wedding experience for them. This makes me really happy and super motivated.
What are some of the new practices and rules wedding ceremonies may have to abide by? Are there any social distancing measures in place for seating at the ceremony?
The Dominican Republic reopened its borders on July 1st. Like anywhere else in the world, social distancing is our new reality.
In my opinion, it’s not hard to respect that and also apply it to events.
At DIDEA we have always worked with private wedding venues in Punta Cana and all over the island. Even more – our venues are mostly open-air, so it’s not difficult for us to adapt to the new rules.
As a planner, I see that intimate wedding ceremonies and elopements are now on the rise. Organizing them at private, open-air locations gives us the unique opportunity to maintain social distancing, while giving our clients the wedding of their dreams.

The new measures and changes mean keeping our clients and our team safe and healthy at all times. Our team is wearing masks while working events, disinfecting all rental items and we are also spreading out seating and set up for the wedding ceremony and reception.
As far as food goes – we are not serving buffet-style anymore. We have completely switched to a plated dinner style as well as family-style serving, whichever our clients prefer.
It really is a small sacrifice for the benefit of everyone and I believe it helps everyone feel safer.
