Mara and Jeff’s Wedding at Grand Moon Palace Cancun's wedding

The Couple

Mara and Jeff are a like-minded pair who have dated since high school and matured together as a couple through college. They have always been in full support of each other and have never had any rough patches or serious arguments, and have always just worked well together. Mara joked that they finally caved from the pressure of family and friends to get married after 8 years of dating.

The Planning

The couple was already leaning toward a destination wedding beforehand and found Destify while doing some research online. Mara said her agent, Daniel, put the couple at ease over the phone and made her feel rest assured. To her, planning a destination wedding was easy. “I got to do all of the fun stuff for the wedding and none of the difficult things.” They liked that it was a vacation and honeymoon all in one.

They decided on the Grand Moon Palace for 10 days in Cancun and made sure to schedule some alone time together for a couple days after their guests left. Thanks to booking enough rooms, they received a complimentary cocktail hour after the ceremony! Mara sited the service as being especially accommodating once on-site. They roomed the wedding party close together at the large resort and even were able to have a rehearsal ceremony since there wasn’t a wedding scheduled the day before.

The Wedding

Mara said everyone loved the resort, and the couple would hop on the tram frequently to use exchange priveledges with nearby resorts. This meant they got to try further restaurants and bars. The couple felt pampered the entire time thanks to all of the perks of their wedding package, which included champagne and spa treatments. They loved their ceremony at the oceanfront gazebo, and Mara laughed when reflecting on it, as it began to rain just after the ceremony.

The couple bought several disposable cameras and gave them out to their guests to use throughout the trip. At the end, they returned them, and she printed out copies for all who wanted some. This made it so they got to see the destination wedding from everyone’s perspective, and created some unique memories later for a scrapbook. Mara said, “The results were hilarious and sweet.”

Looking Back

Her recommendation would be to plan sooner as they squeezed their entire planning process into 4 months. It made things feel slightly rushed, and looking back it may have put more pressure on their guests to get their deposits in on time. She also recommends if you’re staying at a larger resort to book your excursions once you get there, or even a little time before, as they fill up quickly.

I absolutely loved the resort, I would go back in a heartbeat.
