The Couple

Jaqueline and Troy had met 7 years prior during an industry trade show, but the encounter was a fleeting moment and the timing for life wasn’t right. Jacqueline was a single mother, and both were in their 40s and have never married. In what seemed like a rare occurrence, the two ran into each other between flights at the Boise airport. It felt live divine destiny and Jacqueline said, “Troy claims today that he knew at that moment that he was going to marry me!” After a year of dating, Troy brought Jacqueline to his hometown of Gig Harbor, Washington. It’s a maritime community and he arranged for a boat ride, through a service offering Venetian gondolas in the Pacific Northwest. As the operator stopped to take a picture of the couple, with iconic Mount Rainer in the background, Jacqueline turned to find him on one knee proposing on the boat. During the proposal, he gave a speech about his true love for her, and heartfelt words about her son too, and the boat ride ended at a quaint dinner once they got back to shore.

The Planning

Together with Destify, and their agent Michelle, they were able to find resorts that were also a part of the Ultimate Vacations Club. The wedding party was adults-only except for Jacqueline’s son, and they wanted him as part of the wedding. The couple chose the Dreams Playa Mujeres resort in a beautiful section of Mexico. Once working with the wedding department, Jacqueline said, “To my surprise, it was a very relaxing and collaborative experience.” The process proved to be detailed, and she provided the coordinator with pictures from Pinterest of things she liked. The resort was able to customize much of the details to the couples’ color scheme, from a decorative birdcage to the corn hole game at the reception. Whatever the resort didn’t have, Jacqueline purchased and brought with her.

The Wedding

Once they got to the resort, Jacqueline said everything turned out exactly as shown in the pictures. It was an amazing surprise to see it all come together, and it made it even more special experiencing it all for the first time with their guests. Across 10 days, the couple had 6 scheduled events. It started with them meeting their coordinator in person and having a site inspection, and they also hosted a dress rehearsal and dinner before the wedding. On the day of the wedding, they rented the bridal suite for the day, and all the women in the wedding party had their hair and make-up professionally done through the spa services. As part of their package, the men received an extra room to get ready in. For the grand entrance into the central gardens for the wedding ceremony, Jacqueline walked with her father down an aisle that leads from the staircase to the courtyard. They walked slowly the entire way in order to soak up every moment, and Jacqueline said, “It was one of the most memorable moments, I couldn’t have ever imagined such an elegant walk in.” During their reception, a monsoon swept in and drenched everything. Guests were running for cover, under palapas and gazebos. The resort acted swiftly and was able to work out a quick plan B with their wonderful coordinator Paola. The wedding party was able to finish their formal dinner in a temporary restaurant. While everyone finished, the resort changed all of the linens at their reception, and as the guests came back to the venue fire dancers and water drummers arrived to entertain everyone. It brought the energy back to the group and the party carried on!

Looking Back

Jacqueline’s advises that while planning a destination wedding, you must also prepare yourself for a certain frame of mind. One that embraces the moment and why you’re there in the first place. Whatever is going to happen, will happen (like weather). You traveled for love and life, and for creating memories with your friends and family around you.

The things that may go sideways, end up being the moments you’ll laugh about for years to come. Love, let go, and enjoy the journey and the amazing day!
